About the beer

The history of La Cambre begins in 1201, when Lady Gisèle founded the Abbey of La Cambre in Brussels. For centuries, the Cistercian sisters brewed beer for their own consumption and welcomed travelers and pilgrims. With the French Revolution, brewing activity ceased—but the historic buildings and the park survived. Today, La Cambre beers are produced by Het Anker in Mechelen under a licensing agreement with the La Cambre parish and the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels. They bear the Certified Belgian Abbey Beer seal, which guarantees a concrete link to the historic abbey and ensures that part of the proceeds goes towards its maintenance and charitable causes. The IPA is bottle-conditioned and dry-hopped with Wakatu and Simcoe hops, which give it the citrusy and tropical character that sets it apart.
