About the beer

The 54 IBU Kerek Dark IPA is heavily hopped and has a high alcohol content, despite sharing DNA with its lighter IPA sister. The roasted and malted barley gives it a darker color, like a stout or porter, which also intensifies the flavors. It is rich, hoppy, and sweet, yet surprisingly light.

The VERBEECK – BACK BREWERY dates back to the late 19th century, when it became one of the most beloved independent breweries in northern Belgium. KEREL, far from a traditional brand, is, as its brewers say, “Untouched by the Monks.” In 1966, after decades of production, the brewery closed with the advent of industrial beer, and not a single original bottle remained. Or so it was thought. In reality, one bottle remained, which was discovered years later in the brewery's old warehouses. That bottle was placed in the "care" of Belgian experts who managed, almost miraculously, to recover the original yeast. And thus, the DNA of Kerel remains intact to this day. A beautiful story, isn't it?
