About the beer

Eclipse is born from a collaboration between Brighops and Barona Brewing Company, with the support of Cantinho Café, to celebrate the total solar eclipse of August 12, 2026—the moment when the Moon's shadow will touch the narrow strip of the Trás-os-Montes region where the Sun will be completely obscured, a phenomenon that will not repeat for the next 120 years.

This 6.5% ABV Black IPA combines Nugget, Cascade, and Chinook hops, grown in Bragança, with the Eclipse hop, resulting in a citrusy and fruity profile that overlays soft notes of roasted malt. Beneath its dark appearance, typical of the style, a vibrant beer is revealed—the shadow does not erase the light, it only gives it flavor.

Serve at 6°C, in a glass that concentrates the hop aromas near the nose. The creamy, persistent beige foam lasts to the bottom of the glass.

It pairs by contrast with a spicy chicken burger, where the bitterness and carbonation cut through the intensity of the chili. It works by affinity with barbecue dishes, where the toasted malt notes meet the smokiness of the grill. For snacks, it goes well with grilled alheira or cured cheese, where the bitterness balances the richness. With dark chocolate, the residual sweetness of the malt complements the beer's roasted profile.
