Conceived by Willem Van Herreweghen, master brewer at Timmermans, Brasserie de La Taupe is a perfect example of beers from the Pajottenland region. Produced in 2013, it was bottled after 24 months of aging in oak barrels. It offers aromas of truffle and wood, as well as dry and sweet flavors, such as dark chocolate, among others. A pleasantly acidic beer with body, carbonation, and touches in the aroma and palate similar to a champagne. It is a beer to savor and age over the years.  World Beer Challenge, 2017

About the beer

Born, literally, from the desire of master brewer Willem Van Herreweghen, the Brasserie de La Taupe Brewer’s Desire resembles a champagne due to its light carbonation, dry palate, and woody notes. Several yeasts, isolated and cultivated by the brewer, are added, and the famous Brettanomyces* also come into play to produce the unique result of beers of this style.

Discovering the world of Brettanomyces, the name given to the wild yeast of spontaneous fermentation at the heart of the legendary lambics of the Zenne Valley, is a fascinating experience. This little marvel of bitter taste will win you over with its subtlety of flavor, where lambic never means acidity. A wild and fresh aroma combines with a completely liberated taste from the very first sip, leaving a taste of authenticity on the palate while maintaining all the mystery of Brussels gueuzes.

Over the last century, 3 generations of "The Finest Drinks Company" have provided all connoisseurs with a wonderful journey through the world of beer. Today, every second of the day or night, two of their beers are being enjoyed somewhere in the world. The secret to this success lies in the blend between English tradition and Belgian know-how. John Martin, born in 1886 in Newmarket, GB, moved to Antwerp in 1909 and started by importing English beers, and by 1912 he was already the official importer of Guinness. But it was only in 1950 that John Martin developed a beer, the Bulldog Pale Ale, later known as Martin’s Pale Ale. In 1992, the "Finest Beer Selection" by Anthony was launched, and a year later the Timmermans brewery joined the group. Today, this brewing group owns the formula for Guinness Special Export, a version produced in Ireland exclusively for Anthony Martin.
