Ettal Abbey was founded in 1330 by Emperor Louis IV, known as the Bavarian, and during the 15th and 16th centuries, the monastery had a brewery in the village of Oberammergau in Upper Bavaria. In 1609, the brewery was finally established at Ettal Abbey, where it has been producing Benediktiner Weissbier for over 400 years!
