About the beer

Barona Brewing Company was born in 2015, founded by three partners from Castelo de Vide — the surnames Barrigas, Roque, and Nabo gave rise to the brand's name. The microbrewery has facilities in Marvão, in the heart of the Alto Alentejo, and its ambition is to be the best Alentejo craft beer, with national recognition. The Cucumber Kölsch is inspired by the traditional Kölsch style — originating in Cologne, Germany — with a summer twist: fresh cucumber added to the process. The result is a 5% ABV beer, straw-colored with a white head, light and dry, with lively carbonation and an aroma of fresh cucumber, pale malt, and herbaceous notes. The palate is clean, with a short, refreshing finish. At the table, the lightness and vegetal profile of this Kölsch call for dishes without great intensity. Cucumber sushi or salmon temaki create a direct affinity with the beer's herbaceous notes. A fresh cheese salad with cucumber and mint works by complement — they share the same fresh and clean register. Light snacks such as bruschetta or a vegetable platter with hummus let the beer shine without competition. For a contrast pairing, a grilled chicken burger with yogurt and cucumber sauce closes the circle naturally.
