About the beer

The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the brewery's pride. An abbey ale brewed in the classic 'Quadrupel' style of the best Belgian abbey beers. Dark with a creamy, ivory-colored head, the aroma is fruity—a result of the unique characteristics of the yeast—packed with complex flavors and noted for its long, bittersweet finish with a hoppy touch. (10.0% ABV) Recognized as one of the best beers in the world, it is a very balanced beer with a full-bodied flavor and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet tastes. It is one of the original recipes from the days of production under license for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren. St. Bernardus Brouwerij.

Pairing: The Abt 12 has a formidable and intense flavor, making it the ideal partner for rich red meat and game dishes, such as the famous beef stew 'Stoverij' or rabbit, for example. Blue cheeses—a Roquefort, for instance—also pair perfectly with the Abt 12. And don't forget to try it with a chocolate pairing for unexpected, yet highly successful results.

The St. Bernardus brewery was founded in 1946 by Evarist Deconinck in the town of Watou, in the Flanders region of Belgium. Initially, it produced beers for other brands, but in 1959 it began producing its own beers, and as early as 1992, it started brewing beers using the same process and recipes as the legendary Trappist brewery Westvleteren. Today, St. Bernardus is recognized as one of the best Belgian breweries, and its beers are widely distributed throughout the world.
