About the beer

Raphael is a Saison brewed by Dois Corvos in collaboration with Bordallo—a tribute to Rafael Bordallo Pinheiro, founder of the Fábrica de Faianças das Caldas da Rainha and a central figure in Portuguese cultural identity, whose work presents a unique blend of creativity, naturalism, and humor. Much like the artist's work, this beer is dry, expressive, and full of personality.

Produced in Marvila, Lisbon, with 5.2% ABV, Raphael combines barley, wheat, and oats in a cereal base that balances rusticity and smoothness. The wheat contributes to freshness and lightness; the oats round out the blend without erasing the liveliness typical of the style. In the aroma, white pepper and fresh herbs define the Saison’s spicy character, with notes of cereal, rustic bread, and a subtle hint of white fruit completing the profile.

Pairing: Raphael's dry and spiced character pairs well at the table. With soft-ripened and washed-rind cheeses, the beer’s spicy affinity complements the cheese's intensity without overpowering it. With herb and lemon roasted chicken, the freshness and herbal profile create a natural harmony through affinity. With summer salads with mustard vinaigrette, the beer's dry and lively finish cleanses the palate between bites. It also works well with mild cured meats and artisanal bread, where Raphael's cereal notes and rusticity find their most direct match.
