About the beer

Vetra DONZA was born from a collaboration between the Italian breweries Vetra and Birra Stavio, with 5.3% ABV and 17 IBU. The producer itself sums up the concept with humor: "Vetra breaks the Purity Law and no one can take this condemnation away from us!" — a reference to the addition of spices, something unorthodox in a classic Rauchbier.

The base rests on Pils and Rauch (smoked) malts, which provide the characteristic smoky aroma of the German style. The Hersbrucker and Spalter Select hops remain discreet, leaving room for Calabrian orange peel, which brings an unexpected citrus note over the smoke. A bottom-fermented beer, it is a medium-bodied lager with a dry finish.

Pairing:
Smoked sausages — the affinity between the Rauch malt and smoked meat is direct and obvious.
Barbecue — the smoke in the beer reinforces the grilled flavors, by complement.
Aged cheeses — the bitterness and smoke cut through the fat of these cheeses, by contrast.
Dark chocolate — the spicy and citrusy note of the orange finds affinity with intense cocoa.
