About the beer

Lupulus was born in 2003, in Courtil, in the Belgian Ardennes, founded by Pierre Gobron under the name Les 3 Fourquets. Hibernatus is the brewery's answer to winter: a robust, unfiltered, bottle-refermented beer with an intense black appearance and a compact, creamy head.

The aroma is dominated by roasted malt and notes of coffee; on the palate, a medium-high, creamy body leads to a warm finish with a balanced bitterness—typical of a Winter Warmer that warms without being heavy, with its 9.5% ABV.

It pairs well with dark chocolate, whose bitterness finds an affinity with the beer's toasted notes. It accompanies intense cheeses, such as an aged blue, in contrast with the sweetness of the malt. It also serves as a natural digestif after a winter meal and pairs with roasted game meats, where the coffee and roasted notes enhance the flavors of the grill.
