Gouden Carolus Indulgence is a limited-edition series from Brouwerij Het Anker, a Belgian brewery with roots in the 15th century, based in Mechelen. Each annual expression is crafted for special occasions—a rare pleasure to share with those who deserve it. Blond Whisky Infused is the 11th edition and arrives exactly a decade after the launch of the original Whisky Infused. For this version, Gouden Carolus Imperial Blond has been enriched with whisky from a selection of Anker casks and First Fill Bourbon casks. The result is a Belgian Golden Strong Ale with 10.7% ABV: golden, full-bodied, with a creamy and persistent head. On the nose, vanilla and oak dominate, with an unmistakable hint of bourbon. On the palate, slightly sweet malt, spices, and toffee integrate with the wood and whisky. The finish is long, with a gentle warming sensation and moderate bitterness. At the table, it calls for dishes with character. Meats marinated in wine or spices find a natural complement in this beer—the vanilla and toffee enhance the meat's juices. Mushrooms sautéed in butter create an aromatic affinity with the woody notes. Creamy cheeses such as Brie, Camembert, or Serra da Estrela contrast with the alcoholic warmth and cleanse the palate between bites. As a digestif, it is best enjoyed on its own, slowly.
