About the beer

Vault City Brewing was born in 2018 in Portobello, Edinburgh, and has become the UK's largest producer of sour beers, known for its vibrant, fruit-forward sours built on a house-mixed fermentation culture.

Peach & Apricot Pastel de Nata is the result of a collaboration between Vault City, Lisbon-based Dois Corvos, and Portuguese importer Beer Freaks. The inspiration is direct: the iconic Portuguese pastel de nata. Built upon a sour base, layers of creamy vanilla, caramelised sugar, and a hint of cinnamon recreate the pastry, while ripe peach and apricot bring freshness and fruitiness to every sip. The result is a 4.8% ABV beer with a smooth, silky body, a sweet-and-sour profile, and a fruity finish that evokes traditional pastry shop flavours.

It pairs by direct affinity with a pastel de nata itself, enhancing the notes of cinnamon and caramel. With fruit tarts or berry cheesecake, the beer’s acidity balances the sweetness of the dessert. With fresh cheeses or requeijão, it creates a contrast between the creaminess of the cheese and the tangy touch of the beer. As a digestif, its soft carbonation acts as a palate cleanser between bites.
