About the beer

Gouden Carolus Imperial Dark: Refined complexity!
Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Imperial Dark, also known as "Blauw" (blue), is a limited-edition Belgian Strong Dark Ale produced by Brouwerij Het Anker. The beer is brewed annually on February 24th to celebrate the birthday of Charles V, and it is known for its excellent aging potential.

The recipe for this exceptional beer dates back to centuries of brewing tradition at Brouwerij Het Anker in Mechelen, Belgium. The name "Cuvée van de Keizer" (the Emperor's Grand Cru) is a tribute to Emperor Charles V, who was born in the city in 1500.

Crowned the Best Belgian Strong Ale at the 2015 World Beer Awards.

Tasting and Serving Notes:
This exceptional beer is ruby-brown with a creamy, beige-colored head. The aromas are complex and intense, with notes of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, plum, raisins, and dried figs. As it ages, the complexity increases. The flavor is full-bodied, rich, and smooth, with a balance between sweet and bitter. It features flavors of malt and spices and a long, warm finish with notes of vanilla, caramel, and roasted malts. The body is full, with a velvety mouthfeel. A beer worthy of an emperor, meant to be savored. For the best tasting experience, pour gently in a single motion at a temperature of about 10 to 12 °C.
